SERVICES what we do

If it is in metal we are willing to quote you with distance presenting no barrier. One of our greatest assets is the capability and enthusiasm to assist in the design element of bespoke metalwork. Our three directors have, between them, over 90 years experience in this industry. We will work anywhere in the U.K. and in the past have carried out various contracts in locations as diverse as Orkney and Southampton with contract values ranging from a few hundred pounds to a quarter of a million pounds.

With the increasing awareness of health and safety issues within the industry, the highly respected National Farmers Union has been recruited as the company’s health and safety advisor. As a result, customers can be assured that training in this field is to the highest standard and all appropriate certification is kept fully up to date. The use of an external consultant also allows for immediate implementation following any changes in legislation as well as providing expert advice on any local or site specific issues.

The reputation that the company has built up over the years is based on the quality of our work and level of service we provide while maintaining a competitive price structure. As a result we enjoy long-term relationships with several main contractors.

This process started in 1983 when we worked at Methil Oil Rig Yard for Lilley Construction doing piling work blocking off the finger docks. Our association with Lilley was interrupted when the company went into liquidation but was resurrected when Lonhro took over and continued for many years. In a similar manner, our first liaison with Robertson Construction was for the Open Learning Centre at Perth College in 1995/1996 and we are still working for them today on several major contracts.

Other previous projects have included the fabrication and erection of the structural steelwork for the covered passenger walkways at the ferry terminals on the islands of Mull Stornoway and Orkney, the fabrication and erection of the structural steelwork for the new grandstand at Perth Racecourse, the fabrication and erection of the new glider store at Portmoak Airfield and many others. One of our most recent projects was the fabrication and fitting of the parapet rails on the new Finnieston Bridge over the river Clyde in Glasgow, also known as the “Glasgow Arch”, for Edmund Nuttal Ltd. We have carried out work at Saughton Prison, Edinburgh for Carillion Plc and Binns Fencing.

In July 2006 we were approached by the Architectural Division of Aberdeenshire Council to provide assistance with the design of the metal work element for the new and unusual bus shelters for Peterhead Transport Interchange. As a direct result we have secured the contract for the fabrication and erection of these shelters from MTM Construction, Aberdeen.

Our ongoing contracts include plant and machinery repair and maintenance, plant design and fabrication, structural and architectural steelwork for a wide variety of clients. We can operate on a supply only or a supply and installation basis and no job is too large or too small.

As the company continues to expand, so do the customer base and the resources available. Local authorities and energy providers, such as the new factory being erected at Scone, Perth for Forest Bio Products Ltd, feature high on our list of new contacts while contracts with our existing customers continue to grow. The most important thing, however, is that the our reputation for quality and service which Dave Thomson has built up over the past 28 years, should be preserved as the company evolves to the next stage of it’s development.
